The Blackout.

Because it is easy to see things during the day, bomb-dropping planes were forced to drop their explosive cargo over towns at night. Otherwise, they'd be seen instantly and blown out the sky. People took advantage of this, and made sure that it was almost impossible to see anything from above at night. This was called the Blackout.

-Every window had very thick curtains, which stopped any light from getting through. These were called Blackouts. If Blackout curtains were unavalable, then wooden Blackouts were placed in front of windows instead.

-Street lamps were switched off or covered up.

-The headlamps of cars, buses and bikes were given the same treatment, unless in pitch darkness, where a minute amount of light was allowed.
